POLISH TAXONOMICAL SOCIETY
History
- The Polish
Taxonomical Society was founded on December 30, 1991 by a
group of young Polish taxonomists working on various
groups of invertebrates. These 25-30 persons during
several years met on scientific seminaries organized by
Dr. Lech Borowiec and Dr. Grzegorz Gabrys at the
Department of Zoology, Agricultural University in
Wroclaw. The Polish Taxonomical Society unites only
actively working taxonomists, both professional and
amateur but with published scientific papers.
- The Society does
it in order to:
- support
scientific research on invertebrate taxonomy;
- store
scientific collections;
- organize
scientific library;
- create a
new scientific journal devoted to various aspects
of invertebrate taxonomy.
- In order to
attain the above purposes the Society organizes:
- scientific
seminaries and meetings;
- scientific
expeditions and trips;
- research
works;
- collaboration
with various scientific institutions working on
invertebrate taxonomy;
- publication
of quarterly journal and monographic books on
invertebrate taxonomy.
- In 1990, before
the formal founding of the Society, the first fascicle of
the new quarterly "Genus -
International Journal of Invertebrate Taxonomy" was published. To
this date nine volumes of the quarterly and eight
monographic supplement volumes appeared.
